Over the past days and weeks many SPA members have expressed concern over the ability of our colleagues in Puerto Rico and other affected areas to provide much needed medical care following the devastation associated with hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey. Puerto Rico and parts of the U.S. Virgin Islands remain largely without power, communications and is desperately short of medical supplies and equipment.
In response to these needs and in keeping with the mission of the Society, the SPA Board of Directors has established a fund to be directed to hurricane relief.
The fund will match member contributions to the SPA of up to $5,000 dollars, for a total donation of up to $10,000. The deadline for the match is Friday, October 20, 2017 at Noon ET.
Donated funds will in turn be directed to Americares. Many of you are familiar with Americares as a provider of medications and supplies for medical missions. Americares is also actively engaged in hurricane and other disaster relief in Puerto Rico and elsewhere. Americares is highly rated by Guidestar and other charity rating organizations (www.americares.org).
Your donations will be made to the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA).
SPA is a 501(c)3 organization, and contributions are tax deductible.
SPA will then donate funds to Americares.
